Researching this family from Banbridge, Down.

My father and grandfather were born there 1880 and 1902 respectively. In 1904 Grandfather took his family to Canada, the States(1918?) and eventually New Zealand(1920?) Grandfather was married to Sara nee Bell and he had three brothers and eight sisters all of whose names etc I have. I would like to track down anyone who may be able to identify my grandfather's paternal grandfather (supposedly named George/Joseph?) but also interested in any other CUPPLES'
Any and all info about this family greedily accepted!
Regards,

Hullo, we live in Wales. My husband is Roger Cupples. His father is Kenneth Kingsford Cupples, his grandfather is Archibald Cupples. Can you confirm if you are of the same family? I think it is probable that you are, and I have been in touch with other family? in Canada. Apparently Archie was married to Grace, but when the papers from the Canadian Exp Forces were looked at it turns out that his wife was Sarah? Any thoughts on this? Look forward to hearing from you. Very sincere regards, Viv and Roger (Cupples).

I don't know if he or his family ever moved to Scotland but my grandmother " Grace Hamilton McLean" was born in Dalry/ Mauchline Ayrshire Scotland, she was a tailoress by trade as well.
The only other information I have is that my mother " Margaret Melba Cupples" was born in Calgary Alberta Canada on July 23, 1915 and " Archibald Cupples" born in Ireland is listed as her father on her birth certificate.
At sometime my " Archibald" worked as a tailor at " Tip Top Tailors" in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.
According to family talk, he passed away when my mother was just an infant. and my grandmother never spoke of him to my mother or any of us.
Would love to know if you could help me in any way.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Nicola,
I have lots of Cupples ancestors on my paternal grandmothers side, in my family tree on GenesReunited. Traced them back to Down in Ireland on the IGI Files and also ScotlandsPeople site, there are lots of Cupples descended from them; they are in Falkirk,Kilsyth,Grangemouth,Glasgow etc. etc. You can find my tree posted in GenesReunited. search hot matches for Cupples and look for Duncan Mc.Donald as tree owner. I am in the middle of adding loads of Cupples documents contents to the notes for the Cupples section of the tree, verbatim from B.M.D. & some OPR B.& M. Hope this is of interest, will take time to complete this section on the Cupples Family. Can anyone supply the meaning of the Cupples name?
Regards,
Duncan MacDonald.

Hi Duncan,
I'd been told by my grandparents and father (now deceased) that there was a Scots link. My people came to NZ from Banbridge, Down via Canada and the States in 1920. I visited Ireland and the UK last year meeting some of the family. I'm told that the name is Huguenot. The nearest I've found is the Cupils who fled to England and were residing in Wandsworth, at one time.
Hoping to hear more from you, meanwhile I'll try to find what you mention in your post.
regards,
Coral CUPPLES

Hi Nikki,

Ihave been trying to locate any information on my grandfather ( Archibald Cupples ).
The only information I have is that his name is on my mother's birth certificate.

My grandmother's maiden name was ( Grace Hamilton McLean ) born Dalry / Mauchline Scotland 1886.

I can find no marriage for them anywhere.
Archibald's place of birth is listed as Ireland and occupation as a tailor.
All I know is that Archibald once worked as a tailor at ( Tip Top Tailors ) in Edmonton Albeta Canada.
My mother ( Margaret Melba Cupples) was born July 23 1915 in Calgary Alberta Canada
and did live in Edmonton for how long I don't know.
When checking the " Canadian Expeditionary
papers, Archibald's wifes name was Sarah.

Odly enough, Archibald joined the forces just before my mothers birth, he joined up I believe the papers state either Calgary or Edmonton, I don't have the papers at hand.

Any information would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards

Louise Tayler
