Hello Andy. Let me say that I love your mandoline playing. Anyway, I can find no reference to an Irish version of this placename in any of the available databases. Below are phonetic words that have been used in the past that may, or may not, be relevant; A, áth, ath, átha, atha, a ford. Bo, badh, a recess. Bo, bó, bo, mbó, mBo, cow/s. Bo, both, a hut or tent. Bo, bothant, a den. Curragh, churraigh, cuirreach, currach, curraidh, a marsh or a racecourse. Curragh, carrach, rugged. Curragh, currach, marshy land. Curragh, churraigh, wet land. Curragh, cora, a weir. Curragh, corra, an enclosure. Curragh, gCurrach, swamps. Kind regards. IP: Logged |

Andy, you are guessing. The best way to nail this down is to look at the placename source books in your local library or have a word with the local postmistress. Abocurragh is not in any placenames book available to me. Regards. Tom. IP: Logged |
