I have a marriage certificate of a couple from Armagh in 1860 but I cannot decipher the names of the place's where they were living or where they got married.
The lady lived wher they got married and it is something like: Armalragne/Armabraghe
The man lived somewhere like: Killimosllog
Does anyone have any ideas please?
Sorry looking through the other poists here I think I've just got the first one it must be Armaghbreague! But I do need the other name too please

There are a few different ways of spelling Armaghbreague. It means the 'false' Armagh. The Killimosllog does not ring any bells. If you could post a scan of the placename perhaps we might be better able to help you. We also need to now which county or parish it is supposed to be in. Would the last five letters be Sligo?
King regards.
Tom;.

Thanks a lot

I'll see if I can send a scan of it then - not sure how at the moment but I'll work on it! I think this place could be in Armagh or Tyrone, but that's a bit of a guess, so I'm not cutting Sligo out. First letter could be K, S, T ...?

Armaghbreague appears to be spelt without the 'gh' on my certficate.

Anyway Thanks Karen

Karen,

I think the townland is Tullynamalloge (they left-off the "e" [gr]). It is in Keady civil parish, just west of Lisnadill parish where Armaghbrague is located. I can't tell you much more, other than that it is 410 acres in area. And yet, I don't see it located on either my old OSNI Discoverer map 28 or my newer OSI Discovery map 28B. I have townland maps for all of the Republic, but nothing for the North. I'm sure Tom or someone else will know just where Tullynamalloge is located, in reference to Armaghbrague. It can't be more than a few miles.

Thanks a lot Pete. This does sound right as his son was subsequently born in Tassagh, Keady - so your mention of Keady, seems to confirm things. Do Armaghbreaghe & Tullynamalloge no-longer exist as they don't appear to be on the maps?
Best Wishes
Karen

Good man Pete, I cannot locate it anywhere. It is not in the Census of 1851 as a placename either.

Karen,

The problem was in the inadequacy of my maps. The townlands are there, but I have maps (170 of them) for only the 50,000 or so townlands in the Republic. I don't have detailed maps for the 10,000 townlands in the North. However, I went to www.placenamesNI.org and found it. There is a map search feature there which showed Tullynamalloge butting right up against Tassagh townland !!! just a couple of mile NE of Keady town. How about that? And Tom, the townland is listed in the IreAtlas, based on Alexander Thom's Index of the townlands, from 1861... at www.seanruad.com .

Thats interesting Pete. I thought the source.
/basis of Sean Ruad's site was the census of 1851 but the placename Tullymalloge/Tullymallog is not in that census.
Regards.

Tom,

=== but the placename Tullymalloge/Tullymallog is not in that census. ===

Could it be because it should be TullyNAmalloge ??? [grin]
