Can anyone help me in finding out who Andersonstown in Belfast is named after, or the origin of the town's name? All I have been able to find so far is that the name of the town was changed from Whitesidetown to Andersonstown. Any info greatfully received, especially if it involves a James Anderson.

If you want to avoid specultion go directly to your county library and look it up in the index to the ordinance survey books. The source books should also have even more data.
regards.
Tom.

To james i am also intersted in the anderson and whiteside family and was wondering if u found out anymore informtion about them. The whiteside family owned the house on the hill and the anderson had the house down the lane way the bottom of lakeglen. Whitesidetown renamed Andersonstown after the Whiteside family who were dispossessed through their leanings to the principles of United Irishmen. I be greatful if u have found out any information to share it because i have tryed to find out things about it but there not much infor on it.

Thank u

Dear All, I have been trying to find out info on Andersonstown. My family come form Saintfield and in First Saintfield Presbyterian graveyard there is a gravestone which links Andersons there to Andersonstown. A gravestone mentions that the person buried is related to James or Richard Anderson of Andersonstown. My family have been connected to 1st Saintfield since 1658. I'd be interested to hear if any of you know of a Saintfield connection. George
